Stitching Hope and Dignity Through Empowering Disadvantaged Girls Through Tailoring Classes in Kenya

At Path to Freedom Kenya, our mission is clear, to protect and empower children affected by modern slavery through advocacy, rehabilitation, education, and economic empowerment while strengthening community capacity to safeguard children’s rights, respond to abuse, and promote economic resilience for sustainable well-being.

In line with this vision, we recently launched a tailoring and dressmaking training program designed to empower disadvantaged girls and young women in Kenya. These classes are part of our broader Vocational Skills Training Initiative, where we have already trained over 80 youth in essential trades such as hairdressing, catering, plumbing, mechanics, and tailoring.

🧵 Empowering Girls Through Skills and Dignity

Many of the girls who join our tailoring classes are survivors of exploitation, abuse, or unsafe domestic work. Through our Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program, we first offer trauma counselling, mentorship, and life-skills training to help them heal emotionally and regain confidence. Once stable, they begin hands-on training in tailoring, a skill that not only opens doors to financial independence but also restores a sense of dignity and purpose.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, the girls learn everything from basic stitching and fabric cutting to professional tailoring and small business management. By the end of the course, each participant is equipped with the skills needed to start a sustainable career, whether by finding employment or launching their own tailoring business.

Path to Freedom Kenya believes that education and economic empowerment are powerful tools in breaking cycles of poverty and exploitation. Through our Household Economic Strengthening strategies, we support graduates with startup kits, connect them to local markets, and train caregivers in financial literacy. This approach not only transforms individual lives but strengthens entire communities, creating an ecosystem of resilience and self-reliance.
